How Do I Use the Self-Showing Lockbox?
Many MoveZen homes support self-showings, allowing you to tour a property at your convenience using a secure, digital lockbox.
Audience: prospective renters using a time-limited access code to tour a home on their own
The process is simple, safe, and fully tracked through our scheduling partners (ShowMojo or Tenant Turner). Here’s exactly how it works and what to expect.
Quick answer 👍
-
You schedule the showing online
-
You verify your identity
-
You receive a one-time, time-limited lockbox code
-
The code unlocks a small box holding the house key
-
The code expires immediately after your scheduled window
-
All access is logged for safety 🔐
Self-showings are available only for qualifying homes — vacant, accessible, and cleared for independent entry.
Step-by-step: How to use the self-showing lockbox 🗝️
1. Schedule your showing

Choose a time that works, and you’ll receive confirmation via text or email.
2. Complete ID verification
Before receiving a code, you must verify:
-
Your identity
-
Your phone number
-
That you're the person attending the showing
Verification takes less than a minute and is required for everyone — this protects residents, owners, and you.
3. Receive your access code
Once verified, you’ll receive:
-
A numeric code
-
Instructions on where the lockbox is located
-
The exact time window the code will work
-
Any property-specific notes (gate instructions, parking, etc.)
Codes usually activate a few minutes before your appointment.
4. Unlock the box
Most boxes follow the same pattern:
-
Enter the code
-
Press the release button or pull down the lever
-
Take the key from inside
-
Lock the box back before entering
-
Use the key to open the home
Some boxes require you to enter the code again to close them — instructions are provided with your access message.
5. Tour the home at your own pace 🏠
You may walk through freely during your scheduled window.
Please:
-
Lock doors behind you while inside
-
Do not disturb neighbors
-
Keep keys with you at all times
-
Respect any off-limits areas listed in the instructions
6. Return the key when you’re done
Before leaving:
-
Lock all exterior doors
-
Place the key back inside the lockbox
-
Close and secure the lockbox
-
Ensure the code area clears (most boxes reset automatically)
Your code expires immediately after your appointment.
When self-showing is not available 🚫
Some homes require agent-led tours because of:
-
Current occupancy
-
HOA restrictions
-
Complex access or safety requirements
-
Limited lockbox placement options
-
Owner preference
In these cases, the showing calendar will only display agent-available time slots.
FAQs ❓
Do I need a credit card for the lockbox code?
No, MoveZen never requires a credit card to view a home.
Is the lockbox safe?
Yes. Codes are one-time, time-limited, and fully logged.
What if the code doesn’t work?
Codes only activate during your scheduled time. Arriving too early will prevent access.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, as long as you are the verified person who booked the showing.
What if I want to see multiple homes?
Just schedule additional showings. Each home has its own code and verification process.
