How Do I Make a Payment in My Resident Portal?
Everything you need to pay rent through your online portal, from your first move-in payment to setting up automatic recurring payments.
Your MoveZen resident portal is where you'll make all of your rent payments. This guide walks you through making a one-time payment, handling your move-in payment, and setting up autopay. For anything not covered here, the AppFolio Online Portal help center at the bottom of this article has videos, screenshots, and much more.
How to Make a One-Time Payment
- On the Home or Payments tab, click Pay Now to make a one-time payment.
- If you have saved payment methods, those will be displayed, or you can Create a New Payment Method.
- Select your preferred payment method: eCheck (direct withdrawal from your bank account) or credit/debit card (Apple Pay or direct). Enter the associated payment information and click Continue.
- Choose to pay in full or edit the amount. If online payments are required to be made in full, the amount won't be editable, and you'll have the option of paying either the Balance Due (past and current bills) or the Full Balance (past, current, and any upcoming bills, including unposted recurring bills).
- Review the payment date and payment balance for accuracy. A transaction fee will also be displayed.
- Once everything is verified, click Make This Payment Now. You'll receive a confirmation email once the payment is successfully submitted. The payment may take a few days to process and clear. If you didn't get a confirmation email, your payment may not have gone through, so please reach out to your account manager.
Move-In Payments
You may not see a balance due if your move-in date is still far away, but your hold payment is still required to secure the home. Make a one-time payment anyway using the steps above. Just enter the amount yourself and submit the payment. You'll always receive a confirmation email once your payment goes through successfully.
Setting Up Autopay
- On the Home or Payments tab, click Set Up Autopay to create an automatically recurring payment.
- If you have saved payment methods, those will be displayed, or you can Create a New Payment Method.
- Select your preferred payment method: eCheck or credit/debit card (Apple Pay or direct). Enter the associated payment information and click Continue.
- Give the payment a name, select whether you want to pay a fixed amount or your outstanding balance, and choose the payment start date.
- If you choose to pay an outstanding balance, you'll also see a field for a maximum limit. You can proceed with the suggested amount or choose a new one.
- Click Create Autopay. You'll receive a confirmation email when your payment processes. You can review your autopay details on the Payments tab of your portal.
A note if more than one resident has portal access: Please be careful about who sets up autopay. There are several ways to set it up (pay the full balance, pay a fixed amount, and more) so you can fit it to your needs. But if more than one resident sets up autopay to pay the full balance, you could accidentally overpay. We've seen it happen. We can never charge your account. We add the rent charge, and you control the payment side entirely from your portal, so just coordinate with anyone else on the lease before you both turn it on.
More Help
The AppFolio Online Portal help center has far more detail than we can fit here, updated quickly, with videos and screenshots. It doesn't just cover payments either. You'll find guidance on signing documents, submitting maintenance requests, and more. It's a great guide to your full portal, so please use it.
